If your child misses school for doctor or dentist appointments, sicknesses, religious observances, or other reasons that are excusable, be sure to send a note with your child stating the reason why he or she was out of school.
The EBR parish school system along with the Baton Rouge Police and the District Attorney’s office is putting into effect measures to help reduce or eliminate truancy.
The East Baton Rouge Parish school system is staying on top of truants by alerting parents via phone every time a child has an unexcused absence.
Letters signed by Superintendent John Dilworth and Moore are sent to a child’s residence when they have three unexcused absences and again when they have five unexcused absences.
Additional unexcused absences are handled by the school system’s Office of Child Welfare and Attendance or the courts.
So please, if your child is out for an excused absence, be sure to send them back with a note explaining this so that their absence can be documented. We wouldn’t want you to go through any inconvenience because of an excuse not being sent.
