Rules and Consequences
Sherwood Middle Academic Magnet is a school where learning takes center stage. It is a school where appropriate behavior is encouraged and inappropriate behavior is frowned upon.
This year SMAMS is taking steps to encourage students to be the best they can be. To ensure that our classrooms and campus areas always reflect the best from our students, we at Sherwood, have begun the Positive Behavior Support program where appropriate behavior is encouraged and inappropriate behavior is addressed and modified so that it doesn't occur again.
Behaviors that are considered inappropriate are:
Materials not brought to class everyday
Excessive talking
Constant disruption of class
Eating, drinking, or chewing gum in class
Disturbing other classmates during classroom instruction
Any ID violations (Do not deface your ID in any manner. There are to be no marking on the ID, no cutting of the ID, and no stickers or other adhesive applications on the ID.)
Refusing to do assigned classwork (this includes sleeping in class and laying ones head on the desk)
Any dress code violations (see student manual for specifics)
Disrespectful behavior towards a teacher, administrator, or fellow student
Inappropriate materials brought to school (cell phones, CD players, iPods, cameras, etc. These will be confiscated and the parent will have to come to school to retrieve them)
Tardiness
Harassment, teasing, or bullying
Lying
Forgery signatures
Plagerism
The above list are minor violations and steps are in place to address them so that they won't happen again. Students who consistently have minor violations will end up an afterschool clinic, parental suspension, or school suspension.
Major behavior violations, such as fighting, cursing a teacher and/or student, vandalism, disruptions on the bus, etc., will be taken directly to the Dean of Students, Mr. Brown, and he will take the necessary action.
