On July 1st of 2009, Mrs. Crawford entered her 46th year in education. To spend that much of someone’s life in a career speaks volumes of how much that person enjoys what she is doing.
Prior to coming to Sherwood Middle, Mrs. Crawford spent 33 years as an elementary teacher, a reading teacher and an elementary school principal. Twenty-eight of those years she spent at Audubon Elementary in Baton Rouge.
Following her stint in the elementary school environment, Mrs. Crawford made the move to middle school, Sherwood Middle to be specific. She has been at Sherwood Middle for 11 years, serving as its principal.
Mrs. Crawford holds degrees of Bachelor of Science, Masters in Education, Masters in Supervision and Administration and a Reading Specialist.
She received the state’s highest recognition for teachers when she was awarded Teacher of the Year for Louisiana. This award allowed her to travel to the White House and attend a luncheon with then president Ronald Reagan.
Mrs. Crawford has also been recognized as the parish and regional Principal of the Year for both her elementary and middle school positions.
A quote that Mrs. Crawford likes to use as a guide in her life is, “Tell the truth, do your best, no matter how trivial the task, choose the difficult right over the easier wrong, look out for the group before you look out for yourself, don’t whine and make excuses, and judge others by their actions and not by their race.”
