I am Ms. Allene Kaiser, as your as your 6th grade child's math teacher for the 2009-2010 school year. The opportunity to enhance your child's ability to use number sense and math applications in our world today is my goal to help your child reach their goals. I have taught total of 30 years, 23 in mathematics of the middle school grades.
Students must be prompt for my class in room115 B hall with a respectful, positive, cooperative, working attitude toward learning, dressed in accordance with the East Baton Rouge Parish Dress Code guidelines AND required class materials and assignments DAILY!!!!!
Each student must have their own #2 sharpened pencil s in my math class and COLORED PENCILS! Especially on Unit Test dates. Each student will have 2 math workbooks that are to be brought to class daily! NO ink pens in MY math classes!
Homework is assigned daily. It is the responsibility of each SMAMS student to copy the assignments from the classroom front board into the homework planner. Parents should consistantly monitor what is written to assure completion of assignments promptly. Parents are to sign the written assignment and/or make a comment in the lower section of the page indicating that they are aware and also responsible for this assignment's due date. Study buddies are to be called and this web site checked as required references whenever a student is absent, since math textbooks are kept at home.
Parent/Teacher conferences are scheduled through the office, 272-3090. We meet just after school at 2:35 p.m. Parents call the office and state which teachers you would like to have present, or leave a message to have one of your child's teachers call you back. Please mention the best time to reach you in this case. I will respond to your e mail messages or phone messages within 2 school days. Sometimes our computer's servers are down. Please know your online code to check your child's grades that have been posted by the teachers. These will be either mailed to the parent at the home address or call the school board office when this time comes.
Please visit our Sherwood Middle School web site often for places of tutoring certain subjects at certain times, updated information or announcements as our school year progresses for dates of progress report or report card distribution, lunch menus, school picture dates, boys' AND girls' sports events, yearbook sale, standardized testing dates or holidays. This information, rules, standards and policies are listed in the front pages of the student planner also.

Your child will attend math class every other day alternating A Day and B day classes! We have 90 minutes for math every other day. Students are encouraged to try their very best to complete the homework assignment and skills the day of class and not the night before the next day's class since there is a day between each class. The information will be fresh in your child's mind.
Absences allow two school days to make up work. I assign bell ringers daily, and Unit test every several weeks to comprise a TOTAL of earned points for averaging grades for 4½ weeks progress reports and 9 weeks report cards. Our parish grading scale has been changed to the ten point scale as stated in the front pages of the student planner.
Students are to find their GPA to the tenth's place on the back of every progress report and report card. Parents or guardians must sign the form and return the next class meeting. This is an assigned grade and NOT BONUS POINTS.
To assure SUCCESS for higher grades and grade point averages, students are to call a few of their study buddies when they are absent from my math class, or just to get clarification of instructions of that night's homework.
Let's have a GreA+ year!!!!
My class motto:
Good, Better, Best...Never let it rest!
Until the Good is BETTER, and
the better is YOUR BEST!
And I don't just mean on math tests! YES!
