A NOTE TO PARENTS & STUDENTS:
Students in Mrs. Hines' Social Studies classes will have an opporunity to get bonus points for attending the Rural Life Museum's Harvest Days. Students who attend this event must get a brochure that lists the schedule of events, as well as write a one page reflection that describes your experiences at the event. The reflection must include information about what was experienced and interesting things learned during the visit. There will also be a Civil War Re-enactment during the festival! This is a great opportunity to witness what life was like during the 19th century. I encourage all of my students to take advantage of this great opportunity because it is located right here in BATON ROUGE! The Rural Life Museum is located on Essen Lane. Below I have listed some information about the event along with a link to the Rural Life Museum's website. The event will be held both Saturday and Sunday, September 26th & 27th from 8:30 - 5:00. The entrance fee for the event is $5.00 for ages 5 and up, and children under 5 will be free.
Brochures and Reflections must be stapled together and turned in no later than Friday, October 2nd.

LSU RURAL LIFE MUSEUM HARVEST DAYS
September 26 – 27, 2009
The LSU Rural Life Museum will present the fourteenth annual Harvest Days on September 26 & 27, 2009. This educational event will interpret life in nineteenth century rural Louisiana. Living history demonstrations by twenty five renowned artisans will focus on agricultural and domestic activities common on plantations and farms at harvest time.
This year there will be even more activity, as the Rural Life Museum commemorates the 147th anniversary of the Civil War Battle of Baton Rouge. Led by the Seventh Louisiana Infantry Company K, several hundred re-enactors will authentically portray the battle of August 1862. Demonstrations of drills and the battle will take place both days, complete with mounted cavalry and cannons shooting blank ammunition. The daily life of soldiers and citizens will be portrayed through Civil War encampments.
Harvest Days will be entertaining for all ages. Children will enjoy numerous hands-on activities and old-fashioned games. Lunch will be offered for sale, so plan to bring the whole family and spend the day. The gift shop will offer an array of handmade and unique folk items.
Harvest Days will take place from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Saturday, Sepetember 26 and Sunday Sepetember 27. For this event all visitors will be charged regular admission for both days and credit cards will not be accepted for admission. The Rural Life Museum is located at 4560 Essen Lane at I-10 in Baton Rouge. For more information, please call (225) 765-2437.
