Daily bellringer will consist of five prefixes or suffixes. Students will learn the meanings of of these and be given an example.  After 25 words, students in 6th and 8th will have a test of words as they are used in a sentence with a different word.  Each test counts 100 points.

Vocabulary notebook must be brought to class daily.

Week 2:  Students are making energy boxes.  They are to be completed at home.. Boxes are to be taped shut, completed wrapped in paper of choice.  No tape or staples may show.  Use construction paper to cover taped area.  Cube 1 must have names of  6 types of energy (Typed)  Cube 2 must show  pictures of those types of energy.  Pictures can be from magazines, internet, but must be in color.  Cubes will be graded for neatness, accuracy, creativity and must be on time.  B day is due Friday 1/15.  Each day it is late, they will lose 10 pts from the 100.  A Day is due 1/21


Energy notes need to be studied nightly.  Edusoft test on Unit 5 next week.  Students will have a test on notes next Tues and Weds.  We will review on Thursday and Friday of this week.

Weekly outlook 8th graders


Monday A 2/8/2010 ___ Voc. 185-190,  Finish notes on friction, force, Review Newtons Law.  Complete review section in Leap packet on Motion, Force, and Energy.  Draw design for egg drop.  Must be at least 8" high whether a square, rectangle or triangle.  Students will begin construction on Wednesday(1A) and Monday (4A).  3B will begin design and construction on Tuesday.  STudents will be in groups of 2 or 3, their choice.  Grade will be determined by success.  All students should be completed by Thursday and Friday.  Students that are absent will be required to construct project at home.


Vocabulary Test: 2/18-19


After Leap we will be reviewing Leap material until test time in April.

Monday:  Voc. 185-190 (A), 190-195 (B) on Tuesday. Test on vocabulary 175-200 on Feb. 18/19 after Mardi Gras.


Monday: (A) Complete notes on work, power.  Create machine folder.  Homework on work due at this time. 3 pages of calculations on work.  Bring calculators to class on Weds. Bring pictures of six simple machines to class on Wednesday.  All pictures should be in color and on one sheet of paper. Machines are: levers, pulleys, wedges, inclined planes, screws, and wheel and axle.


Tuesday: (B) Complete introduction page on machines.  Bring pictures of six simple machines to class .  See above notes for names of machines and directions.  Bring calculator to class. 


NOtes on simple machines and their purpose, pg. 1.


Lab activity:  Build a simple machine and determine its rate of speed and mass.  At end of class discusss problems with building your machine.


Wednesday:  Same as Tuesday class.


Thursday:  Complete simple machines.  Bring calculators and finishe lab.


Friday:  Same as Thursday.

Monday:  Homework due:  Machines and machine handout.  Thanks to all parent and students who did such a good job on edusoft #7.  There were no unsatisfactory scores and many students scored mastery and advanced.
